105 Pennsylvania Gray

$5.00$7.00

Gray blend limestone is one of the most popular colors with the eastern modelers.

This is a natural blend that could be used for several different railroads East of the Mississippi river.

If you are planning connections to the mountains or deserts, use this product for the mainline that connects to those Western branch lines.

As your railroad works west, the geology and color changes so use different colors for the ballast and scenery.

Excellent product

Great company to deal with and they are fast to get the product to you. Its real and not crushed walnut shells. I use this as part of my recipe for my ballast. I mix this product with the N scale and HO scale 1382 CSX Southern Pacific Wabash Gray This gives me what I think is the perfect mix and color of the ballast I am after. I also rinse the dust off to bring out the color even more.

ARM ballast

I use the PRR ballast for my HO N&W layout—-the N scale ballast around the turnouts and the HO ballast for the mainline. As always, ARM ballast spreads easily, retains its color and doesn’t float when diluted white glue is applied. ARM is the only ballast that I’ve ever used and will continue to do so in the future.

Pennsylvania Gray 2 HO Scale Ballast

i suppose it is great stuff, but I have not found it to meet my needs. Perhaps it is great for others, but not me. I hope you have other choices that might work better.

Best Ballast out there!!!

I use this ballast for gravel roads and parking lots. I model in HO, and like the way this looks. It is easy to use and doesn't float away like other brands. From now on, I will only use ARM ballasts and powders!!! Great Products!!!!

After being ejected out of a volcano,  cinder/volcanic rock gets its appearance from the simultaneous rapid cooling and depressurization process. Grey Cinder has small cysts, which is what causes it to be so light in weight. We crush it down to make 105 Pennsylvania Gray Ballast

Ties/Sleepers are placed on ballast to forms the trackbed upon which the track placed. It is packed between, below, and around the ties and ballasted to bear the load from the railroad ties, to facilitate drainage of water, and to keep down vegetation that might interfere with the track structure. The ballast also holds the track in place as the trains roll over it. It consists of crushed stone. Many modelers consider ballasting a chore, but one that is necessary to get the right look.

More on Ballast

The ballast for railway modelers comes in many sizes and colors. You will need to choose the size—this dependant on the scale of your model railway. Choose the color because of the location of your railway. Size is critical as over or under size ballast looks wrong. Colour is not as important as variations occurred around the country dependant on what local stone was available. It is possible to combine two colors to create the effect you require, but mixing the materials must be done accurately to allow you to combine the two colors again should you need more material. Choose the size and color that are appropriate for your scale and locale and complement the colors of your scenery.
