Union Pacific Gray Blend 1352 HO Scale Model Railroad Ballast
$6.00 – $8.00
I was trying to match the proto type ballast on the road we are modeling. The owner Jane worked with me and her advice was spot on. She sent out a few samples for me to mix and find a good match. Her company actually crushes real rock to make her ballast as opposed to the others who crush nut shells. Excellent service will buy again
Track ballast forms the track bed upon which railroad ties (sleepers) are laid. It is packed between, below, and around the ties. It is used to bear the load from the railroad ties, to facilitate drainage of water, and to keep down vegetation that might interfere with the track structure. The ballast also holds the track in place as the trains roll over it. It consists of crushed stone. The term “ballast” comes from a nautical term for the stones used to stabilize a ship.
