Description

1234 Bulk Tan Granite G Scale Ballast delivers 1234 lbs of coarse 30–40 grit tan granite stone, precisely screened for G scale layouts. Sourced from naturally weathered granite quarries, this ballast features a warm tan hue accented by subtle brown and ochre flecks, closely matching prototype branch-line and garden railroad trackbeds. Its coarse grain size provides realistic texture under G scale ties and maintains stability when adhered. The professional-grade crushing and screening process minimizes dust, ensuring neater handling and reduced cleanup. Once spread onto the prepared roadbed and wetted with a diluted glue solution, the ballast compacts firmly, resisting displacement under outdoor or indoor usage. Whether outfitting a large garden railroad loop, constructing an outdoor G scale display, or stocking supplies for a club’s multi-module project, Armballast 1234 provides consistent color fidelity, superior drainage, and long-lasting stability to achieve lifelike realism across every foot of G scale track.

Features:

  • Grain Size: 30–40 grit (coarse)
  • Color: Warm tan with brown/ochre flecks
  • Packaging: Single 1234 lb bulk pallet
  • Scale Compatibility: Optimized for G scale use (1:22.5–1:32)
  • Adhesion: Bonds securely with diluted white-glue mixtures
  • Dust Content: Low, for cleaner handling

Application Instructions:

  1. Pour ballast onto the prepared G scale roadbed in manageable sections.
  2. Gently tamp or brush grains so they settle snugly between G scale ties.
  3. Lightly mist ballast with water containing a drop of dish soap to help grains conform.
  4. Carefully apply a 50/50 mixture of white glue and water along each rail, avoiding over-saturation that might wash away ballast.
  5. Allow the ballast to cure undisturbed for 24 hours before trimming excess or applying weathering.

What is 1234 Tan Granite Ballast made out of

Decomposed granite forms over thousands of years when solid granite bedrock weathers and breaks down into smaller particles through natural processes like freeze-thaw cycles, water erosion, and chemical reactions. This weathering typically occurs in regions with exposed granite outcrops—such as mountainous or desert landscapes—where water and temperature changes gradually fragment the rock. The resulting material retains much of granite’s mineral composition, including quartz, feldspar, and mica, giving it a distinctive tan, pink, or gray hue. Because it compacts well and drains easily, decomposed granite is often harvested for landscaping, pathways, and model railroad ballast.
