The term ‘HO to dust’ refers to particles ranging from approximately 1/16 inch down to fine dust, making it an excellent choice for achieving detailed and authentic-looking scenery in your model scenes. Using this ballast is straightforward and can be broken down into a few simple steps: Spread, Wet, Bond, and Dry.

Begin by spreading the material directly from the package onto the desired area of your layout. After spreading, wet the area with a mixture of water and a few drops of soap. This mixture helps break the surface tension of the water, allowing it to penetrate the ballast more effectively, which is crucial for proper adhesion. Once the ballast is adequately wetted, bond it in place using a diluted mixture of white glue and water. This technique secures the ballast, ensuring it remains intact as you continue to build your model railroad. Allow the ballast to dry, which typically takes about 2-4 hours, depending on environmental conditions.
